Washington DC

Last week Sunday Mark left with a group from school for a whirlwind tour of DC. He was one of 8 chaperons with 70 students.

The first day was touring the monuments...

I never knew that DC was built in a swamp and by night fall...it gets a little buggy by the reflecting pool.

They went to the tomb of the unknown soldier and watched the changing of the guard. Mark said the ground is worn where they walk and it was truly impressive to watch.

The eternal flame at JFK's grave in Arlington National Cemetery.

Mt. Vernon.

Madame Tussauds...they had jackets available to try on so you could 'feel like Jackie'. The guys gave it a try...it didn't really work.

Mark met the President and Mrs. Obama

It was very nice that the president let Mark use his office to call home for an update on how we were doing...Mark also wanted to make sure Eddie hadn't started to walk yet.

The Iwo Jima memorial. The flag pole is 60 ft tall. Mark said it is massive.

The moving exhibit for September 11 at the Newsueum. Mark said this was a very interesting museum.

The whole group in front of the capitol building before the drive home Thursday night. He got home about 7:30 Friday morning.

We are so thankful for God's protective hand...I got a scary phone call on Wednesday, the day of the shooting at the Holocaust Museum...that was the group's next stop. Thankfully they missed it by 30 minutes and the group was directed to other areas of DC.

Mark had a wonderful trip. The kids did great, they were well behaved, they didnt' have any injures and they didn't lose anyone. Mark enjoyed his first trip to our nation's capitol and is looking forward to taking our family back. Eddie and I are so glad to have him home!!

Oh, Eddie did wait to start walking until Mark got home...he took his first steps on Saturday! He was walking along the wall and he reached his little arms out to me and took 5 steps before falling to his buns!

I'm glad that the group didn't make it to the museum yet! Whew.

Puzzle:

Do you see the security guy? in our pic we took when we were there last year, you could see three different guards around the building.
