The rains came down...

water up to the 1st step by our front door.
Mark standing by our garage. Water reached his car parked in the driveway, but it only reached his feet when yahoos tried to drive down the street and sent waves surging up the driveway. We joked that we should put up 'No Wake Zone' signs.

And the floods came up.

This is when the flooding began...when we thought we would be able to hold the water back with a few towels and blankets.

Boy were we wrong.

Through all of this we have so much to be thankful for. Our family is safe. Eddie slept through the whole storm and has been such a good boy. He has been bounced around and thrown off schedule, but still remains his happy, quacking self. Our families have helped us so much! They have watched Eddie, hauled stuff out of the basement, done our laundry and fed us. We can not thank them enough!
Our neighbors have been wonderful too. There is talk of a post flood cook-out. The night of the storm people were running to each other's homes to help save what they could. Our neighbor Greg helped haul things out of the basement. Mark and Greg then waded to the neighbors to help them. We've had meals dropped off and offers to do our laundry...it has been wonderful to see our community pulling together.
We were SO thankful when Mark talked to our insurance guy on Saturday morning. We didn't think that we were covered. It wasn't until Mark told him that most of the water came up from the ground that we were told we were covered. If water had just come in through the windows, we would not have been. With the coverage we are going to be able to put the basement back together. Such a blessing and a huge weight off our shoulders!!
This is from when we first noticed water coming up from the floor...it was the strangest thing to see.We are thankful that our basement is now dry and next week the dry-out company will put in new drywall. We didn't lose anything major, all our photos were saved and it looks like our washer & dryer can also be saved. I did lose my collection of Murder, She Wrote books...but my birthday is coming up and now Mark knows what to get me. :) [I know, I not only watch the old TV show...I also read the books. I just can't get enough of Jessica Fletcher.] We are finally feeling settled and getting 'back to normal'.
We know that others have not had the same experience as us. We feel so bad for them. We have friends still using dryvacs to gather water and will have to continue to do so until the water table goes back down. People who have lived in the neighborhood for 50 years and never had a problem have had issues on Friday. We pray we will not have this for at least another 50 years!

Oh man, I can't imagine!
I'm speechless!! I'm only a few blocks from you and we didn't have the flooding issues like you.
